Glenn Shadix: 1952-2010. Comic Gem Hoped for Role Opposite Rob Pattinson.

September is shaping up to be a sad month on the comedy front.
Three days ago, we got word that funnyman Robert Schimmel had passed away at age 60.
Today it pains us to report that another friend of BlogTalkRadio,Glenn Shadix, is gone at 58.
The master character actor accidentally fell last night in his Birmingham, Ala., home and suffered a head injury.

Fans of Tim Burton’s Beetle Juicewill no doubt remember Glenn’s hilarious portrayal of pretentious interior designer Otho—opposite Alec Baldwin, Michael Keaton andGeena Davis—in the classic 1988 mock-horror flic.

And though Glenn left Tinseltown in 2005, he hoped to return to the silver screen, namely in a role opposite superstar Rob Pattinson.
Interviewed in April of this year on BlogTalkRadio’s Flashback—which would be his last-ever known interview—he discussed his recent audition.

“I’ve been on a sabbatical and I’ve done a couple of films since I’ve been in Alabama—I’m doing one on Maui. I’m going again in the summer,” the actor, who also played Jerry Seinfeld’s landlord onSeinfeld, told host Carey Fisher.
“And just two weeks ago, Fox, out of the blue, called and I did two screen tests for two different roles.
“Water for Elephants—it’s the new film based based on the Sara Gruen novel, with Reese Witherspoon and Robert Pattinson from the Twilight series andChristoph Waltz, who just won Best Supporting Actor for Inglorious Bastards.

“I don’t know if I’m gonna get a role, but I’m real glad that they thought of me.

“I’ve been out of Hollywood for five years—and people think you’re dead!
“I was glad to let them know that I wasn’t, and I was pleased with the test.”
