Robert Pattinson: I ran on the treadmill to train for Eclipse action scenes

Robert Pattinson says he prepared for the intense action scenes in Twilight: Eclipse by running on the treadmill.

"I had to learn how to run properly," Pattinson, 24, told a British TV show. "In the last two films (Twilight and New Moon), I ran in a limp/skip. I had to run more solidly this time so I spent a lot of time on a giant treadmill. It was like one of those things that mice run around in."

Robert, who hates working out (unlike his athletic co-stars Taylor Lautner and Kellan Lutz), underwent fight training for a scene where he battles the villain Victoria (played by Bryce Dallas Howard).

While the 6'1" former model confesses he used a body double for the more intense fight sequences, producers were impressed by his dedication.

Pattinson recounts: "Weirdly, one of the producers told me: 'Wow, you look so enthusiastic in that fight scene, much more than in any other one in the series'. It's always hard to do stuff with Bryce because she's the gentlest person and is always laughing. And she's afraid of hurting me!"

Robert, who's currently in Georgia and Tennessee filming the drama Water for Elephants (with co-star Reese Witherspoon), will attend the 2010 Teen Choice Awards in L.A. Aug. 9. Rob and his Twilight castmates have been nominated for several awards.
