The third instalment of the Twilight series has raked in about $17.75 million in its first week, making it Australia's eighth-biggest opening week release of all time.
The Twilight Saga: Eclipse is the third chapter in Summit Entertainment's vampire romance, which delves deeper into the love triangle between human schoolgirl Bella, her vampire boyfriend Edward and werewolf best friend Jacob.
It was released with special midnight screenings in the early hours of July 1 and has been playing to packed screens since.
But it has not managed to topple the opening week record set by the second film in the series, New Moon, which remains in third place with $20.25 million sold in the first seven days of release.
Harry Potter and the Half Blood Prince remains Australia's biggest opening week box office hit, after making $22.03 million.
Eclipse was also in eighth place for the opening weekend box office record, after taking $12.99 million in its first four days.
Released in November 2009, New Moon also eclipsed that title, taking $16.1 million at the box office.
New Moon remains Australia's biggest opening weekend of all time.
