'New Moon' Keeps Thanksgiving Record Despite 'Harry Potter: The Deathly Hallows' Release

Harry Potter's spell on the box office still lingers, as The Deathly Hallows, Part 1earned $50.3 million this weekend to bring its two-week total to $220.4 million, according to studio estimates.
But Tangled, Disney's animated update of the Rapunzel fairy tale, was second by a hair, with $49.1 million for the weekend and $69 million since opening Wednesday.

Despite big business for the top two movies, receipts fell short of the Thanksgiving record set last year, when The Twilight Saga: New Moon and The Blind Side were released.

New Moon is the top film of pay TV in 2010

The Twilight franchise continues to break records. The film "New Moon" the second chapter of the saga, was the most watched pay TV in Brazil in 2010, according to Nielsen. The record was set in the premiere of the film Telecine Premium, which occurred on October 30. The canal opened the sign for non-subscribers during the viewing.


The detail is that "The Twilight Saga: New Moon was not only the most watched movie of the year in the Brazilian pay-TV. It was also the second. The encore was in its reprise in the telecine Popcorn, the next day. That is, the fans never tire of seeing actors Kristen Stewart and Robert Pattison interpret the love story between the mortal Bella and vampire Edward.


Guess which was the record-breaking TV audience paid last year? Twilight, the first James Bond movie.

In other Showtime scheduling news, "The Twilight Saga: New Moon" will have its cable television premiere on Saturday, January 8. The second "Twilight" film took in nearly $710 million at the worldwide box office after its 2009 release.

'The Twilight Saga: New Moon' makes 'Guinness World Records' books!

"The Twilight Saga: New Moon" earned a place in the book for having the Highest Opening-Day Gross, $72.7 million, beating previous record holder "The Dark Knight."



The Twilight Saga: New Moon also has number one opening day and single day gross totals as well as the biggest midnight opening.


Each year, the Guinness World Records book chronicles the biggest, smallest, longest, and shortest records associated with nearly every conceivable aspect of the world, but being placed in the text is a very coveted feat, so it's a pretty big deal that New Moon made this year's cut.



The Guinness World Records book was released on Tuesday, September 14th.

Last year, both Twilight and its director, Catherine Hardwicke, were placed in the 2010 edition for "Highest-Grossing Movie by a Female Director."

"Eclipse" passes "New Moon" in domestic box office totals.

Summit Entertainment's "The Twilight Saga: Eclipse" on Thursday surpassed the $296,623,634 domestic box office total of "New Moon." On Thursday in 1,212 theatres, the third installment of the mega-blockbuster franchise earned $190,143 and that was enough to bring its total to $296,649,934 and take the domestic gross crown away from its worthy predecessor.

New Holiday Look for Twilight Books.

The Bookseller is reporting that Stephenie Meyer’s Twilight Saga will be getting a makeover for Christmas. Limited edition paperbacks will be released with white covers, but the catch is that they will not be available in the US. Here’s more from The Bookseller:

 

The four limited-edition titles: Twilight, New Moon, Eclipse and Breaking Dawn, will be published by Atom on 14th October as £7.99 paperbacks, available only in the UK and Ireland, and Little, Brown’s territories including Australia, New Zealand, South Africa and India. The white editions will not be available in the US.


The white titles will only be published between October and Christmas 2010, replacing the usual black jackets. The titles will have crimson-edged pages and crimson back covers, with text confined to the spines.


It’s too bad we won’t be getting these in the US. What do you think of the new white Twilight covers?

Kristen Stewart: Nothing is better than sharing passion

Kristen Stewart is delighted that The Twilight Saga films have so many enthusiastic fans.



'It feels good. There's nothing bad. We're not nervous about the pressure or having approval because we share the fans' obsession with the story,' says Kristen, 20.


'It's great if you're on some sort of common ground. It's like fire. There's nothing better than sharing passion.'
Some lucky Twi-Hards were even allowed on set when Kristen, Taylor Lautner and Robert Pattinson were shooting The Twilight Saga: Eclipse.



'It was strange having fans so close - it's like doing theatre, they would stand up and clap after every take and then sit there very quietly, organised in little rows, trying not to disturb us while we were in character,' recalls Kristen.
'It was a little bit more pressure, but at the same time it was motivating. They gave us a lot of encouragement.'

Kristen Stewart, Robert Pattinson, & Taylor Lautner Set To Make At Least $40 Million For ‘Breaking Dawn!’

Hollywoodlife : The three actors will be collecting a very healthy payday AND a percentage of the gross for the final two films in the ‘Twilight’ series!
It looks like Kristen Stewart, Robert Pattinson, and Taylor Lautner can look forward to a nice long vacation after they wrap filming on Breaking Dawn next year — they are set to make at least $25 million and a percentage of the gross for the two part film! Vulture reports, “Insiders tell us that Summit will pay stars Kristen Stewart, Robert Pattinson and Taylor Lautner each a whopping $25 million against 7.5 percent of the theatrical gross for starring in the next and last two Twilight movies, Breaking Dawn, Parts One and Two.” Crazy!

To get the final figure there is a some crazy movie math to be done but Vulture breaks it down like this: “The previous Twilight film, New Moon, took in almost $710 million worldwide, and Eclipse is on pace to exceed that. But let’s conservatively assume that both Breaking Dawns do as well as New Moon: After factoring in exhibitor splits, a lesser studio share for international releases, and other typical debited fees that would give you a migraine if they were explained here, each star would take in another $16 million total, giving them all final paydays of $41 million.”


While the three stars certainly work more than any of the other cast members in the promotion of the film and onscreen, we wonder what costars Kellan Lutz, Ashley Greene, Nikki Reed, and others will have to say about this!
